"Knowing I wouldn't be able to afford college, I wanted to use the resources in high school while I could. My school provided a plethora of photography classes, and even had it's own dark room! Starting with my dad's old 35mm allowed me to get a hang of the basics early on, giving me space to focus on creativity later on. My teacher, whom we lovingly named "Death Valley" thankfully retired after my sophomore year, and was replaced by Ms. Butler. She worked closely with Mr. Pyng whom was the general art teacher.
Mr. Pyng inspired an incomprehensible amount of kids to pursue art, and gave me a safe place to eat lunch when the bathroom was my normal lunch spot. He regrettably passed away in 2022. He had an impact on every life he crossed paths with, and I'm grateful to be one of the many he inspired."

"Growing up neurodivergent and disabled, life was simply more complicated. Being born with club feet and a plethora of other ailments, we didn't have the money to treat more of my issues. This became something that aided in my disconnect from other kids my age. I grew up not understanding myself or the world I was in, and found myself constantly confused by social norms and the functions of the world. When I got older and put myself out there more, whether by shaving my head or growing out my mustache, I found that people often suffer in silence. "Be the person you needed when you were growing up" is something I live by.
I've chosen to be loud and to take up space for those who can't or don't know how. In sharing a story, you give someone the space and confidence to be more than themselves."
